Slender's Woods is the follow up to Slender: The Eight Pages and see's you once again traipsing through the dark trying to avoid one of modern pop cultures most ubiquitous and terrifying horror creations.
The legend of The Slender Man has been a firm favourite on the internet for what seems like an age now. The character was created by Erik Knudsen, also known as Victor Surge, on the Something Awful forums back in 2009. Since then it's grown exponentially in popularity, spawning meme's an image macros as well as being a central figure in what's become known as Creepy Pasta, the internet trend of writing and sharing scary short stories. The character is portrayed as a very tall, thin man in a suit with no face. Instead of a face there is just a blank, pure white head.
The character received it's first real video game in Slender: The Eight Pages, released in 2012 as a free download. The game had you wandering around a creepy wood and some abandoned buildings trying to collect eight pages all whilst being stalked by the terrifying visage of The Slender Man. It was critically well received and for a free, indie download it had a great attention to detail and the atmosphere and lighting were spectacularly terrifying. The game saw a lot of attention in the YouTube crowd and a large number of YouTubers capitalised on the terrifying setting and multitude of jump scares to make engaging and often hilarious content.
The follow up built on the original concept with a new story mode that saw you completing tasks and simple puzzles as well as having you visit certain areas on the map. The game also includes a classic Page Collect mode which echoes the original game but with an updated maps and fresher graphics. Whilst the horror of the original translated well to the sequel, many people have complained that the game didn't add enough in terms of content.
